Despite the dry year, a good wheat crop of 1.3 million tons was collected in Turkmenistan, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a regular governmental meeting.
"Turkmen grain growers have managed to grow a good crop of wheat and collect about 1.3 million tons of grain", the press-service of the Turkmen government said. "This volume will be enough for domestic demand and the seeds for the harvest next year.
President Berdimuhamedov stressed that if we take into account the leftovers from last year's harvest, we even have surplus grain.
Therefore, we can confidently say that people will not have shortages of flour and bread.
The President said that the country has created all of the necessary conditions for the productive work of farmers to enable them to grow big grain crops and thus increase their incomes.
"The state buys powerful modern machinery for farmers", the president said.
Turkmen farmers collected about 1.5 million tons of wheat in 2010. The sown area was 860,000 hectares.
