The Georgian and Azerbaijani railways create a Eurasian transport corridor at the expense of the "Caspian Sea - Black Sea" trunk railway. The route will be the shortest in linking Central Asia with Europe.
Georgian Railways reported that the company implements a strategic project called "Rapid Railway." It provides complete modernization for the Georgian central r ailway and construction of a new line through the Rikoti Pass.
" Azerbaijan Railways" launched a modernization and rehabilitation program within the state development plan. It provides complete modernizing of the railway infrastructure.
Operations envisaged by the program have already been launched. The rolling stock is planned to be renovated and the car fleet is planned to increase by 50 new electric locomotives and 4,000 carriages .
The rapid r ailway project and modernization and rehabilitation program of the Azerbaijani railways are important to both countries, as the key participants in the transport corridor.
