As Iran starts its new year with a new national slogan, "Domestic production, support for Iranian investments and jobs", an automotive company has laid off 655 employees, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported on Sunday.

The Shahab Khodro Bus Company stopped paying the employees before Iran's New Year on March 20. The company has 840 employees. It has fired 365 day laborers and 290 contract workers. The remaining 185 workers will be employed until late May. Then, they will lose their jobs too, said Mohammadreza Farzalian, an investigator for the Central Council for the Islamic Labor Councils of Tehran Province.

The workers have gathered in front of Shahab Khodro Bus Company to protest their firing.

The bus company still has orders to fill but has told its employees it doesn't want them, said Mr. Farzalian.
