The completion of introducing intelligent transport management systems over the whole territory of Azerbaijan is planned in 2014-2015, the general director of the centre of intellectual transport management Elnur Abdullayev told reporters on Tuesday.

Abdullayev noted that the installation of the system in Small Baku will be completed within a few months. Work on the second phase of the project which will cover the villages of Baku and Absheron Peninsula is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

It is expected to test a single system of payment in public transport in Baku during May Abdullayev said. Ten bus routes in different parts of the capital have been chosen for this trial. Tests will show the stability of the equipment for use in the capital.

Abdullayev noted that a single system of payment will cover all forms of public transport particularly taxis in the future. Full introduction may require another two years.

Possible inclusion of the system in air traffic management and rail transport is also being considered.

The intellectual transport management system costing more than $95 million was launched in December last year. The system will be controlled from the centre of Baku after the launch of all three phases.

The system creation involves the installation of 664 information terminals and 48 placards which were posted on the streets of Baku. About 639 sites for buses and about 140 sites for taxis are provided for in the framework of the system.
