Baku Metro is ready to receive any volume of passenger turnover during Eurovision song contest in Azerbaijan, Baku Metro head Tagi Ahmadov told media today.

"The passengers, in particular, tourists can use information blocks installed on the metro stations to obtain additional information," he said. The information can be obtained in Azerbaijani, Russian and English."

He added that about 50 metro employees attended the English language courses. They can help tourists in case of necessity.

He stressed that at present, a number of metro stations, in particular "Avtovokzal", "Memar Ajami 2" are under construction. The construction operations are being held in the Old Guneshli settlement. The work in the areas of new settlement Guneshli is planned to be completed by the end of 2015.

"At present, the negotiations are underway with the Ukrainian company, which can conduct construction work in the direction between Khatai and Hazi Aslanov metro stations, he said. "We are carrying out design work. The construction may be launched in early 2013."

He said that a new technical corpus is planned to be commissioned soon. Various units will be situated there.

Baku Metro plans to start reconstructing May 28 station exit this year. "Taking into account the large volume of passenger traffic, it is planned to increase the number of excavators from three to four," he said.

At present, Baku Metro consists of 23 subway stations and 34.6 kilometers of underground steel paths. The passenger turnover is 200 million people a year. Last metro station Darnagul was opened on June 29, 2011 as a continuation of Azadliq prospect station.

The 57th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Baku Crystal Hall near the State Flag Square. The semi-finals will be held in Baku on May 22 and May 24 and the final on May 26.

The logo for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is 'Fire Flower', while the motto is Light your fire.

Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May.
