The Committee on European Integration of the Parliament of Georgia on Monday heard a report on the activities carried out in the field of free trade and competition.

Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister Vakhtang Lezhava briefed deputies with the stages of the negotiations taking place with the EU on free trade. According to him, the first stage was devoted to preparatory work. In late June, will begin the second stage - working on the texts.

"This is an important and difficult question. European Commission has requested that the content of tests remained closed. But we can say that they provide for all matters related to trade from tariffs to competition," - said Lezhava.

According to him, the agreement is fully and formally to take effect after the Association Agreement to be ratified by all EU member states. But for the reason that trade is a qualified by European Commission, after signing a free trade agreement, it will become effective immediately prior to the ratification of the Association Agreement.

As Lezhava noted, the negotiation process to be completed within two years. From September to improve skills in the Georgian law on competition judges will be training in Sweden. With the help of the Swedish Agency for Development training of workers of competition agency also planned.

From January 1, 2011 the agencies of competition and government procurement, have been combined.
