Cascade of Namakhvani HPP JSC has started conservation of the bridge in the Zhoneti village in Tshaltub area. A press conference held on Friday at the Oil and Gas Corporation of Georgia by the Director of Cascade of Namakhvani HPP JSC Giorgi Abramishvili was devoted to this issue.
"According to conclusions and recommendations of international and local experts, in order to build a cascade, it is necessary to conduct thorough engineering, environmental, cultural, and social studies. Otherwise, we believe the continuation of the project will be an irresponsible decision, which can cause irreparable environmental and social harm to the country. Based on this, we decided on the conservation of the bridge (worth 118,000 lari), until the aforementioned work is undertaken," Abramishvili said.
A subsidiary of the Oil and Gas Corporation, Cascade of Namakhvani HPP, started building bridges on the Rioni River within construction of Namakhvani HPP in summer of 2012. According to the plant, they are an integral part of the construction of the power plant and have been designed to facilitate the transportation of goods. Construction of the bridge will cost 8 million lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari).
The cost of the executed works amounts to 3.5 million lari.
