Kazakhstan plans to increase cereal exports to Iran by 2.5 million tons, the Kazakhstan Agriculture Minister Assylzhan Mamytbekov said.

The plan would become practical once the Gorgan-Uzen railroad comes on stream, Mamytbekov said in a news conference, the ISNA News Agency reported.

Kazakhstan has exported 7.1 million tons of cereals so far this year.

Iran imported over 13 million tons of cereals worth some $5.6 billion in the first 11months of the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2012 - February 18, 2012).

The amount shows a 140 per cent increase compared to the same period of the preceding year, the ILNA News Agency reported in March.

Wheat, corn, barley and soybean press cake were the main imported items.
