The Turkmen President's official visit to the Republic of Moldova is scheduled for July 24-25, the Turkmen government said today.

"This is the Turkmen President's first visit to the Republic of Moldova and therefore, special attention is being paid to it in the context of further development of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and peoples," a statement said.

Following the visit, a package of bilateral documents aimed at strengthening and intensifying inter-state cooperation in priority areas is planned to be signed.

It was earlier reported that the sides decided to speed up the signing of relevant agreements to avoid double taxation and to prevent fiscal evasion on income and property.

Ashgabat and Chisinau are also examining the possibility of cooperation in energy.

Turkmenistan is one of key players on the gas market in the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. At present, China, Iran and Russia are consumers of Turkmen natural gas. Turkmenistan ranks fourth in natural gas reserves in the world and is looking for new sales markets in Europe and South Asia.
