Turkey's foreign trade deficit increases by more than 20 percent

In July 2013, Turkey's foreign trade deficit increased by 22.5 percent compared with the same period of 2012, amounting to $9.8 billion, a report of Turkish Statistical Institute said on Thursday.

According to the report, Turkey's exports in July 2013 increased by 2.2 percent compared to the same month of 2012, reaching $13.1 billion.

Alongside this, imports to Turkey in 2013 rose by 10 percent to $22.9 billion.

According to the report, in July 2013, imports from the EU to Turkey amounted to 41.9 percent of total imports compared to 36 percent in July 2012. During this period, Turkey's exports to the EU increased by six percent to $ 5.8 billion.

The largest volume of Turkey's exports in July was sent to Germany.

Turkey's exports to Germany in July rose by 17 percent to $1.2 billion. Germany is followed by Iraq ($1 billion) and the UK ($625 million).

The greatest import to Turkey also accounted for Germany - $2.3 billion, which is 30.3 percent more than in the same month of 2012. Germany is followed by Russia ($2.2 billion) and China ($1.2 billion).
