Turkish construction company Polat was chosen as a contractor for the construction of the third section of the Masalli -Astara road, a source at Azeryolservis Company under the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry told Trend on Friday.

Work is underway as part of the construction of A and B sections. The contractor on C section construction will start working in the near future, the source said.

"A contractor on the third section has been determined," a source said. "Work will begin soon. This will accelerate the construction process of the Masalli -Astara road."

It is planned to fully complete the construction process of the Masalli -Astara road in 2015. It is also planned to finish reconstruction and development of the highway in the southerly direction towards Iran in 2017-2018.

A 22.15 kilometre A section is being constructed by Azerinshaatservice. Turkish company Ozgun Yapı is constructing the B section.

The B section runs from a 22.15 kilometre point to 41.5 kilometres. The contractor will build a two-lane road running to 19.35 kilometres, 10 bridges, two intersections and pedestrian areas, four recreation areas and a drainage system.

A 19.9 kilometre long C section runs from a 41.5 kilometre point to a 61.4 kilometre point of the Masalli-Astara highway. Moreover, it is planned to construct two pedestrian walkways, eight bridges, four recreation areas, drainage systems and other facilities.

This road project is being implemented through a loan from the Asian Development Bank and the government.

A $200 million loan was delivered by ADB for the construction of the first section.
Work in the other two sections will be financed upon an agreement on an allocation of $200 million from the first multiannual financial framework for road network worth $500 million signed in Baku on July 27, 2012.
