Some $20 billion worth of goods is smuggled into Iran annually.

Masoud Karbasian, Director of Iran's Customs Administration, said custom offices should support legal trade and do not let end prices of goods increase, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on May 7.

In October 2013, the Mehr News Agency quoted deputy head of the headquarters for combating smuggled goods, Mehdi Abooee, as saying that Iran has seized 343 smuggled trucks in southeastern Chabahar Port.

He also said that 140 cars have been illegally imported via Abou Mousa Island, and 267 cars have been smuggled into the country via Shahid Bahonar port.

In July 2013, IRNA quoted former Iranian deputy industry minister Mohammad-Sadeq Mofatteh as saying that smuggling in Iran ruins 200,000 job opportunities in Iran annually.
