Kazakhstan-China trade turnover reaches $ 5 bln in first quarter

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China amounted to almost $5 billion in the first quarter of this year, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Bakytzshan Sagintaev said on May 14.

"The trade turnover amounted to almost $5 billion, showing an 11 percent increase in the first quarter of 2014," Sagintaev added.

At the same time, Kazakhstan's exports to China totaled $ 3.5 billion, while imports from China - $ 1.4 billion.

"This positive dynamics testifies to the possibility of achieving the president's goal of increasing trade with China to $ 40 billion by 2016," he added.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will pay a state visit to China on May 19-20 at the invitation of Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Akorda reported.

The president is expected to participate in the fourth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia on May 21. The summit will be held in Shanghai and the relevant issues of strengthening the stability and regional security will be considered there.
