By Temkin Jafarov - Trend:
There are 220 Iranian prisoners in Kuwait's prisons, Iranian ambassador to Kuwait Alireza Enayati was quoted as saying by the Iranian website Asriran Oct. 29.
Most of Iranian prisoners are accused of drug smuggling and use, a statement said.
Enayati said that around 25 percent of Iranian prisoners have been in Kuwait's jails for over ten years.
"Unfortunately, on average, 10 Iranians are detained in Kuwait on various charges every month according to the statistics," he said.
"Iran and Kuwait signed a document on the exchange of prisoners in 2004," the diplomat said. "The prisoners are exchanged between the two countries in accordance with this agreement."
