Turkey's income from tourism grew by 37.6 percent in 3Q17, as compared to the same period of 2016, and amounted to $11.3 billion, reads a message from the Turkish Statistical Institute.
The message said that 77 percent of total tourism revenues accounted for foreign tourists, while 23 percent accounted for Turkish citizens residing abroad.
“Meanwhile, $8 billion was spent by tourists at retail and $3.3 billion accounts for the costs within tour packages,” the Statistical Institute said.
Turkey's revenues from tourism increased by 8.7 percent in 2Q17, as compared to the same period of 2016, and amounted to $5.4 billion.
Turkey was visited by 12.25 million tourists in 1H17, which is 14.05 percent more than in January-June 2016.
The number of foreigners who visited Turkey in June 2017 increased by 43 percent compared to the same month of 2016. Almost 3.5 million foreigners visited Turkey in June 2017, 42,000 of them traveled to other countries through Turkey.
