Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry grows by 9% in January

Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector showed an 8.7 percent growth in January 2018, while the oil sector remained unchanged compared to January 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

According to the report, the total volume of industrial production (the volume of produced goods and rendered industrial services) in Azerbaijan amounted to 3.9 billion manats in January 2018, which is by 1.5 percent more than in January 2017.

The share of the private sector in the industrial sector was 82.3 percent.

The volume of production in the mining industry reached 3 billion manats (a 1.2 percent increase for the year) with a 75.9 percent share, the report said.

Meanwhile, 3.4 million tons of oil and 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Azerbaijan in January 2018.

Oil production increased by 0.2 percent while gas production decreased by 5.9 percent in January 2018 compared to January 2017.

The production volume in the processing industry amounted to 752.3 million manats (19.1 percent of total industrial output) in January 2018, which is by 1.7 percent more than in January 2017.

In this sector, the biggest growth was observed in production of leather and leather goods – 3.2 times, pharmaceutical products – 3.1 times, tobacco products – 2.8 times, finished metal products – 1.8 times, spinning production – 1.7 times.

In January 2018, production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and heat decreased by 0.2 percent, and water supply, waste treatment and recycling – by 5.2 percent as compared to January 2017.
