As of May 1, 2018, 37,100 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 36.6 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report as of January-April 2018.
Some 37,300 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan as of April 1, 2018. Since early 2018, the average monthly unemployment benefit increased from 331 to 354.2 manats.

According to the report, as of early May 2018 the economically active population of Azerbaijan was almost 5.083 million people.
As of April 1, 2018, 1.532 million people accounted for hired workers, including 888,900 people - in the public sector and 643,400 people - in private sector.
Some 33,600 people accounted for those working in the oil sector, while over 1.5 million people - in the non-oil sector.
Among hired workers 22.9 percent accounted for those working in the production spheres, including 6.2 percent in construction, 6.9 percent in processing industry, 3.2 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.2 percent - in the mining industry, 2.6 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 1.8 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.
Around 21.7 percent account for the hired workers involved in education, 19 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.6 percent - medical and social services, 7.1 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.6 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.6 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.4 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.9 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.5 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering, 1.4 percent - real estate transactions, and 1.1 percent - other areas.
