Kazakhstan’s Astana Motors Company has reached an agreement on sales of Hyundai cars in Uzbekistan, the зresident of the company Nurlan Smagulov said, Kazakh media reported.

"Currently, we have taken on the distribution of Hyundai cars in Uzbekistan. This is a big challenge to enter a neighboring country with a large economy, and a large population and represent the largest South Korean brand there," Smagulov said.

Astana Motors Company has been eyeing up Uzbekistan for several years in the expectation that the country will open the borders for export. The company’s factory for the assembly of cars was originally built with a view to the markets of neighboring countries.

Progress began to show in the autumn of last year, when the liberalization of business was launched in Uzbekistan. The excise tax rate has been reduced to two percent of the customs value for new vehicles manufactured in the territory of Kazakhstan.

Earlierб it was reported that the manufacturing of Hyundai trucks and buses, as well as special vehicles will be established in Namangan.

Astana Motors Company represents eleven automobile brands on the market of Kazakhstan, including Hyundai, Subaru, BMW and MINI, Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Lexus, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo.
