Large Chinese automotive company DongFeng plans to build a complex of factories in the North-Kazakhstan region, the chairman of the supervisory board of SKO JV KAZ LLP Yerzhan Artybekov said at the meeting with the official delegation of the Chinese province of Hubei, Kazakh media outlets reported.

Artykbekov added that the DongFeng factories will produce heavy-duty trucks, and later - small aircraft. The company plans to build a complex of factories in the industrial zone of Petropavlovsk industrial park.

"Initially, the project was planned for one thousand hectares, but due to the fact that it is a start-up project, the area was reduced to 165 hectares. At the initial stage we work for obtaining government permits for this project, which is designed for six years," Artybekov said, stressing that this would be a machine-building project with a full cycle of production and assembly in place.

At the first stage, DongFeng plans to invest $500 million in the project. The total amount of investments will amount to more than $3 billion.

The production of the company’s cars will be export-oriented, as the Kazakh market is insufficient for the plant's capacity. The countries of Central Asia and Eastern Europe are considered as the main markets for export of the company’s production.
