Azerbaijan has ranked 69th among 157 countries in the World Bank’s (WB) Human Capital Index.

According to the Index, Azerbaijan has scored 0.6 points [0 is the lowest indicator, 1 is the highest indicator].

Among the CIS countries, Azerbaijan has ranked fourth, giving way to Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine.

At the same time, the score gained by Azerbaijan is higher than the world average indicator - 0.57 points. This also applies to other Index indicators. Thus, the “Expected years of school" indicator (covers the period from preparation for school to high school) for Azerbaijan is 11.6 years (the world average is 11.2 years).

Azerbaijan scored 472 points (the world average is 431 points) out of 625 possible points on the "Quality of Education" indicator. For girls, this indicator is higher and amounts to 479 points, for boys, this indicator is 466 points.

According to the Index, 87 percent of today's 15-year-olds in Azerbaijan (the world average is 85 percent) will live until 60 years. For girls, this indicator amounts to 92 percent, and for boys – to 82 percent.

The Human Capital Index provides a quantitative estimate of the contribution of health and education to productivity and income levels of the next generation of citizens. The countries will be able to use the Index to determine how much revenue they lose because of a shortage of human capital, and how quickly they can turn these losses into benefits if they take action without delay.
