Iran's tobacco imports up

Iran has increased imports of tobacco and tobacco products in the first six months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), ISNA reported referring to Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

During the reporting period of the current year, Iran's tobacco and tobacco imports stood at 9,300 tons, as compared to 6,000 tons in the same period of the previous year. Thus, the volume of tobacco and tobacco products imported by Iran has increased by 43.4 percent.

The value of Iran's imports at the end of the sixth months of the current Iranian year reached $175.5 billion, while in the same period of the previous year this figure was $212.2 billion, which shows a 17.3 percent decrease.

During the reported period, the volume of import in industry was 6,654 tons, while in the same period of the previous year this figure was 9,848 tons, which resulted in 32.4 percent decrease.

Moreover, 13 out of 18 types of industrial imports have decreased, while an increase was observed in five of them only. However, in the first six months of the current year, industrial exports increased in both weight and value, compared to the same period of the last year.

In the meantime, there was a decrease in clothing imports (by 69.3 percent), imports of leather, leather products and footwear (by 61.8 percent) and in the imports of textile products (by 42 percent).
