Around 2.6 tons of dry saffron were harvested from 630 hectares in Iran's Yazd province in 2017-2018 crop year, the head of Yazd agricultural department Jamal Sajjadipur said in an interview with IRNA.

He noted that 900 people work on saffron fields on daily basis.

Taking into account that saffron growing doesn't require much water, in the current Iranian year (started March 21) 104 hectares will be added to the province's saffron field and the total area of the fields will reach 734 hectares.

Sajjadipur added that most of the fields account for Behabad, Bafq, Mehriz and Abarkuh counties of the province.

Over 1.62 million tons of agricultural and animal husbandry products are produced in Yazd province. Some 790,000 of them account for crop and garden products, 450,000 tons for greenhouse products and 380,000 tons account for animal husbandry products.
