In the current Iranian year (started March 21), 250,000 tons of potatoes have been harvested from 7,500 hectares of fields in Iran's Kurdistan province, deputy director at the agriculture department of Kurdistan province, Farid Sepehri said, ILNA reported.

He noted that the province ranks 4th in Iran in terms of potato production.

Some 1,900 entrepreneurs in Kurdistan province are engaged in potato growing, Sepehri said, adding that 80,000 tons of the province's total potato output is exported to Iran's other provinces and Iraq.

In the current Iranian year, 188 types of potatoes have been planted and 95 percent of them were compatible with accepted standards, Sepehri said.

He went on adding that the concentration of chemicals and fertilizers in healthy potato harvest should be less than 170 PPM and this indicator was a lot lower in Kurdistan's potato harvest, which increases the product's quality.
