India's biggest and most important export to Iran is rice, Hossein Bamiri, Iran's former commercial attache to India, said, Trend reports citing Iranian media.
Some 67 percent of Iran's tea exports come from India, Bamiri said.
Moreover, large amounts of spices, bananas and coconuts are also imported to Iran from India, he added.
India is one of the major foodstuff exporters of the world, Bamiri underlined, adding that Iranian businessmen prefers to import from India because of the country's proximity and reasonable prices.
Bamiri noted that Indian foodstuff producers are not linked to the Us, and thus can freely cooperate with Iran. He went on saying that due to US sanctions on Iran many European companies avoid collaboration with Iran.
Despite the fact that there are sanctions on Europe's foodstuff and pharmaceuticals sales to Iran, Bamiri said, they avoid transactions with Iran because of their US based shareholders.
As it comes to Indian companies, shareholders are mainly locals and have no ties with the US, thus can freely trade with Iran.
