The number of requests for raw tobacco export through Azerbaijan’s Azexport website has increased since early 2019, manager of Azexport website Ayhan Gadashev told Trend.
The requests for raw tobacco export are more often obtained from Russia, Georgia, India, the UK, Germany, Spain, the US and the states in Oceania.
“The number of requests has increased after an increase in excise taxes in many countries-producers of tobacco products from 20 percent to 45 percent,” he said.
Gadashev stressed that the information about tobacco and tobacco products from such districts of the country as Yevlakh, Sheki, Gakh, Zaqatala and Balakan was integrated through Azexport website into international e-trading platforms, namely, All.biz, Agroserver, Tradekey and other platforms, within the state program on the development of production of tobacco and tobacco products in Azerbaijan.
“The number of requests for raw tobacco export has increased after integration,” he said.
On August 10, 2017, the Azerbaijani president approved the state program on the development of the production of tobacco and tobacco products in the country. The state program is scheduled for 2017–2021.
One of the main objectives of this program is to increase the productivity of tobacco up to 20 centners per hectare, expand tobacco areas up to 6,000 hectares and increase production up to 12,000 tons of tobacco.
Meanwhile, 4,100 tons out of a total volume - 6,300 tons of raw tobacco were exported in 2018.
