The Uzbek-Chinese enterprise Fergana stone paper company, specializing in the production of paper from stone, was recently established in Fergana city of Uzbekistan, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

A ceremony of signing a founding contract for $7 million between the Saykal limited liability company and Chinese 'Henan GX-mach Environmental Technology Co.,Ltd' on establishing paper production from stone was held in Fergana.

"Today we are standing on the threshold of a historic event, because this is the only enterprise among the CIS countries to produce paper from stone. Equipment for more than $3.5 million will be purchased for it and the company will be able to produce over 9,000 tons of paper annually," Saikal manager Temur Akramov said.

"The process of making paper will not cause any harm to ecology; simple stone and calcium will be used in production. However, the quality of stone paper will be fundamentally different from the quality of cellulose paper," he said.

For example, in a typical paper making process, a lot of pulp and water are required. Furthermore, the third part of water consists of the added chemicals. Whereas, in the manufacture of paper from stone, water is not required at all.

In addition, the product does not soak in water, the inscriptions are not erased for a long time and it does not cause allergic reactions. The cost of such products is several times cheaper than plain paper.

The industry of paper production from stone at an industrial level is established only in China and Taiwan.
