Oman's investment in Iran's Chabahar port will bring advantages for both countries and improve the cargo transit to other regional states, Gholamreza Panah, Deputy of Economic and Investment Affairs at Chabahr Free Zone Organization told Trend.

"In this regard, bilateral cooperation between Iran and Oman is being negotiated and so far no contract or agreement has been signed," he added.

"Oman is the closest neighbor country to Iran via the sea and air. Chabahar is a suitable place for Omani tourists due to its climate," he said referring to advantages of Omani investors regarding Chabahar.

"Oman can use Chabahar capacities for cargo transit from Central Asia and different regions. Chabahar is also a more competitive route, compared to other routes," he indicated.

"Due to low costs of energy and electricity in Iran and Chabahar, Omani businessmen can establish various complexes in downstream petrochemical industry and transfer the products to their country, or export them from Chabahar further," said Panah.

He added that Omani investments in Chabahar would pay off, leading to proper co-op between the two countries, including creating jobs, increasing revenues, etc.

"There are flight routes between Iran and Oman but in the latest agreements, the maritime connection between Chabahar and Oman has been distinguished and passenger ships will soon start operating as well," he added.

"Chabahar is a strategic port and can be profitable for many countries of the Indian Ocean. The transit advantage of Chabahar can be used by other countries. If the necessary infrastructure is there, Chabahar can be very useful, since it is the only trading path between Afghanistan and Central Asia," Panah explained.
