Electricity producers think that the increase electricity and natural gas tariffs in Georgia is inevitable, Trend reports with reference to bm.ge.

The reason for this is the record depreciation of lari.

“With the devaluation of the national currency, the revision of electricity and gas tariffs is unavoidable,” said Zurab Gelenidze, a representative of the TVS-Capital financial company.

According to him, at this stage, construction of power facilities with a total capacity of 5 gigawatts is planned in the country, a significant part of them is at the design stage, the rest is already in the process of implementation.

The Georgian Industrial Group also proposed to raise tariffs. The group owns a thermal power station in Georgia, which runs on imported natural gas and produces electricity.

Unlike the private sector, the head of the Georgian Energy Development Fund, Georgi Chikovani, believes that tariffs are difficult to predict today.

“At the end of the year, the Fund will review the tariffs and make a decision. Today it is very difficult for me to predict,” said Chikovani.

This year it is planned to revise tariffs for the natural gas sector. In calculating consumer tariffs in this regard, the Regulatory Commission last year took a rate of 2 lari 70 tetri.
