Georgia and Turkey plan to expand trade relations, in particular exports from Turkey to Georgia, and take full advantage of the free trade agreement of Georgia, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Important issues of economic cooperation between the two countries were discussed at a meeting of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava with Chairman of the Georgia-Turkey Business Council Cemal Yangin. Turkish Ambassador to Georgia Fatma Seren Yazgan also attended the meeting. Deputies Minister of Economics and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and Nikoloz Alavidze, and memebrs of the Georgia-Turkey Business Council also participated in the meeting.
The parties discussed issues on strengthening the economic cooperation and intensification of work on joint projects to further improve the trade balance.
“We plan to expand trade relations between our countries and take full advantage of the Georgian free trade agreement.The Georgia-Turkey Business Council, which is a member of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey, will actively contribute [to the initiative],” said Genadi Arveladze following the meeting.
In the first seven months of 2019, total imports to Georgia from Turkey amounted to $864 million. In turn, Georgia exported goods worth $135 million to Turkey.
The foreign trade turnover of Georgia with Turkey from January to July 2019 exceeded $999 million, which is 14.1 percent of the total trade turnover of Georgia.
