New plant on metal production to open in Kutaisi, Georgia

A new plant on metal production will open in Kutaisi, said Goga Shurgulia, the founder of the Geometall company, Trend reports citing commersant.ge.

The Geometall company, which is constructing the plant, mainly produces carbon steel wire nails and other metal products, as well as various secondary products processed from high-tech raw materials. The company sells its products to Azerbaijan.

For the construction of the plant, the National Agency of State Property of Georgia, within the framework of the government program Produce in Georgia, transferred to the company a land plot with an area of ​​over 14,500 square meters.

Shurgulia added that commissioning of the new plant will allow to increase the production volume of the company.

“The building that was handed to us needed to be repaired, and we did a large-scale work. Some 95 percent of the equipment to be installed at the plant is imported from Turkey. The company currently employs more than 80 people, and when the plant starts operations, over 150 people will be employed”, said Shurgulia.

He added that the plant will be fully commissioned in three months. The volume of investments to the project amounted to about seven million lari.

The plant will produce 8 520 tons of carbon steel, 900 tons of barbed wire, 1,920 tons of wire mesh and 960 tons of nails per year. A large part of the plant’s products will be exported.
