Container transit via territory of Kazakhstan up by over 40%

The volume of container transit via territory of Kazakhstan has increased by 41 percent during first eight months of 2019 compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways).

This became known during the meeting of representatives of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and China State Railway Group Company, Ltd

The Kazakh delegation was headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Kanat Almagambetov, and the Chinese delegation was headed by Vice General Manager and Member of the Party Leadership Group of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. Li Wenxin.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of further cooperation on improvement of the services provided in area of cargo container transport, bottlenecks in work, which can be solved on site with participation of specialists of railways administration of both countries.

According to Almagambetov, thanks to the work of both partners, during the reporting period the volume of cargo transported via Dostyk-Alashankou and Horgos-Altynkol border crossings equaled 10.8 million tons, which is 11 percent more compared to the same period of last year.

Furthermore, the cargo transport volume is to be increased up to 18 million tons and of container transport to 1.1 million TEU of containers in 2020.

Participants of the meeting have assessed the work of infrastructure and technical capacities of Dostyk and Alashankou cross-border stations.

Following the meeting, a protocol has been signed.
