Iran is happy to have established banking relations with certain countries without SWIFT, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said at a meeting of the Iranian Cabinet of Ministers, Trend reports referring to the Iranian government's official website (dolat.ir).

According to him, an alternative to SWIFT has now been found.

Rouhani added that banking relations with Russia have already been established and that banking relations will be established with member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and other countries in the region in the future.

“Iran has established banking relations with Russia, Turkey and Iraq in national currency. This will help Iran to evade many problems,” he said.

With the imposition of sanctions against Iran by the US, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), an international interbank system for data transfer and payments, cut off its ties with Iranian banks in November 2018.
