Russia’s Nordwind Airlines plans to launch flights to Turkmenistan’s Turkmenabat

The Russian airline Nordwind Airlines is negotiating the launch of direct Moscow-Turkmenabat flights (Russian Federation - Turkmenistan) with the Turkmen side, Trend reports referring to the Turkmenportal agency, citing the Turkmen media outlets.

Turkmenabat is the regional center of Turkmenistan’s Lebap province.

Presently, Nordwind Airlines operates Moscow-Bokhtar flights (Russian Federation -Tajikistan) via Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which lands in Turkmenabat city for refueling.

Nordwind Airlines fleet consists of 30 aircraft, such as Boeing 737, Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Airbus A321.

A new international airport serving 500 passengers an hour opened in Turkmenistan in 2018. The new runway 3,800 meters long and 65 meters wide has been equipped with modern signal lights and meteorological systems, which allows serving all types of aircraft.

The cargo terminal with storage facilities is designed to handle 200,000 tons of cargo per year.

"The commissioning of a new international airport in Turkmenabat will contribute to the further dynamic development of domestic aviation, the intensification of mutually beneficial trade, economic and humanitarian ties, tourism and the active integration of our country in the system of the world economic ties," the article of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.
