Kazakhstan eyes to expand export to Belarus by $300M

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration has identified 44 items worth $300 million for increase of Kazakh export to Belarus, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the ministry.

According to the ministry, Kazakh metal rolling industry has great potential for Kazakhstan’s export to Belarus.

“Country’s metal pipes can cover over 10 percent of demand in Belarus (total volume of metal pipes import to Belarus was $312.8 million in 2018),” the report said.

Kazakhstan also has the means to increase export such products to Belarus as: steel products (including pipes), agricultural goods (noodles, rice, confectionary), copper products, construction materials and so on.

The ministry will organize a trade and economic mission to Belarus headed by the Minister of Trade And Integration Bakhyt Sultanov in January 2020.

Currently, Kazakhstan and Belarus are holding negotiations on starting export of Kazakh oil and petroleum products to Belarus. According to Kazakh Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev, parties have already aligned main aspects of agreement, the issue of reexport prohibition has been agreed on.

According to the data of Eurasian Economic Commission, value of Kazakhstan export to Belarus amounted to $63.5 million during first eight months of 2019, which is 24.4 percent less compared to the same period of last year. In turn, value of Belarus export to Kazakhstan was $526 million during the reporting period, which also is 2.3 percent less compared to the same period of 2018.
