By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

During the seven months (March 21 - September 22) of this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), Iran imported 20 million tons of products, Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports via Mehr news agency.

Mirashrafi said that 13.5 million tons of the imported volume account for essential products.

The customs official added that imports of essential products decreased by 22 percent in terms of weight.

Iran’s foreign trade turnover reached $50 billion in the seven months, Mirashrafi noted.

“This shows an increase in the value and volume of Iran’s foreign trade,” the customs official said.

Mirashrafi added that for the immediate release of essential products such as medicines, steps have been taken to transport these products by plane under the supervision of the Iranian Healthcare Ministry.

“Because of the US sanctions, some products remain in the customs for 35 days,” the customs official said.

Iran’s Customs Administration is trying to apply a convenient timetable for the release of products, Mirashrafi noted.
