Some 800 pieces of vessel spare parts have been produced at Iranian plants this Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), Director General for Provision of Equipment and Engineering Department of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization Farhad Muntasar Kuhsari said.
Kuhsari made the remarks at the press-conference in Iran, Trend reports referring to Tasnim news agency.
The director general added that the spare parts are of good quality.
Kuhsari said that by producing the spare parts, Iran saves 30 percent of the funds allocated for their import and this figure may increase up to 50 percent.
“Fifteen container cranes have been produced by Iranian manufacturers and another four cranes are being produced,” the director general added. "Some 50-60 percent of spare parts for these cranes are provided domestically."
“Currently, Iran's shipbuilders are building nine ships worth 112 million euros. Another contract worth 36 million euros for building more nine vessels is expected to be signed,” he said. “Approximately 50 percent of spare parts for these ships will be produced in the country.”
Kuhsari added that the projects worth 40 trillion rials (approximately $952 million) will be implemented in the field of maritime transport and port operations this Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, through March 21, 2020) and next Iranian year (from March 21, 2020, through March 21, 2021).
The director general said that 66 big and small vessels were overhauled this year.
