Iran’s consul general: Visa regime abolition to boost investments

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 27

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The abolition of visa regime for Iranian citizens willing to visit Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will boost the investments, Iran's Consul General in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Seyyed Ahmad Huseyni told Trend.

“Iranian citizens will be able to visit Nakhchivan and stay two weeks without a visa and any payment,” the consul general said.

“As part of the visa cancellation, Iranian citizens will be able to travel from Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan by plane and pay the visa fee worth $20 at the airport,” Huseyni said.

"The negotiations on this issue are underway with officials of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” Huseyni said. “During the mutual visits, the sides will discuss the key issues related to investments, that is Azerbaijan’s investments in Iran and Iran’s investments in Azerbaijan.”

“During the previous years people living in Nakhchivan easily visited Iran after the visa regime was abolished by Iran for Azerbaijani citizens,” the consul general added. “Residents of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic visit Iran in connection with different economic issues through Julfa and Shahtaxti checkpoints daily.”

Huseyni said that Iran and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic are discussing the issue of increasing the number of tourists.

“In this regard, the two countries' tourism opportunities are being explored,” the consul general said.

As for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, Huseyni said that the relations are developing between Azerbaijan, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Iran, its neighboring provinces, namely, East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan and Ardabil.

The consul general added that Iran has created a transport route between Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan.

“The Azerbaijani citizens are moving safely by using this way,” Huseyni said.

“One of the issues of mutual interest is to meet the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic’s demand for medicine,” the consul general said. “The work is being carried out to meet this demand.”

Huseyni said that the work on the cooperation of the private sectors is being carried out.

Visa regime will be abolished for Iranian citizens who intend to visit the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from December 1, 2019. Iranian citizens will be able to stay in Nakhchivan without a visa for 15 days.
