In line with a bilateral agreement between Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Tobacco and the leading international tobacco company Philip Morris International (PMI), licensed production of world-famous brands of cigarettes has begun in the country, Trend reports citing Uzbek media
To date, the partners have jointly made investments in the construction of the enterprise that meets international quality standards and installation of advanced equipment from German and Italian manufacturers.
During the first year, the planned production volume will be 500 million cigarettes. According to Tashkent Tobacco, about $13.6 million in taxes and other obligatory payments will be paid to the country's budget in 2020.
The production lines at the factory are installed in strict accordance with the laws of Uzbekistan and safety standards that are applied at PMI factories around the world. In order to ensure control of manufactured tobacco products, Tashkent Tobacco is additionally provided with innovative equipment for a testing laboratory and quality control of cigarettes at all stages of production.
PMI specialists will provide technical support to the metropolitan enterprise. Tashkent Tobacco also plans a comprehensive training and development program for local personnel, both at the PMI manufacturing plant in Kazakhstan and directly at the plant in Tashkent.
Tashkent Tobacco is a cigarette manufacturing company which was registered in 2005. The factory employs over 100 people. Today, the company has long-term business cooperation with leading international tobacco companies. For two incomplete years of work in 2018-2019, Tashkent Tobacco paid over $20 million in taxes to the budget, of which $14 million account for 11 months of the current year.
