BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 16
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia and Japan signed a protocol on concluding an Agreement on the protection, promotion and liberalization of investments, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The signing of the protocol took place at the ministry after the successful completion of 1.5-year negotiations between the parties.
The next step is to conduct internal legal procedures and draw up an agreement, the ministry said.
“The signing of the Agreement on the protection, promotion and liberalization of investments will be a good signal for potential investors from Japan who are considering the possibility of entering our country to conduct business and use its geostrategic location to access other markets in the region,” said Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Genadi Arveladze.
“The full implementation of the document's provision will strengthen our position as a regional center. This agreement will also make it easier for Georgian business to enter the Japanese market and invest in it,” Arveladze said.
The Deputy Minister added that the agreement on the protection, promotion and liberalization of investments between Georgia and Japan will enter into force in the first half of 2020.
