TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.20

Trend:

Lack of a comprehensive transit system, weak cooperation with academic institutions and universities and weak diplomacy as well as disruptive transit laws and regulations are among the most serious concerns for Iran in transit industry, member of the Mashhad Chamber of Commerce said.

“During the last two or three decades we have failed to take advantage of the expert knowledge in the field of international transit to solve the problems,” member of the Mashhad Chamber of Commerce Mahmoud Ommati said on Dec. 19 at the first national conference on international transit in Mashhad, Trend reports citing IRNA.

“Experts believe transit after oil and tourism is a core competency of Iran,” Ommati said adding that Iran is at the crossroads of international west-east and north-south corridors. “Unfortunately, this opportunity has not been exploited properly.”

"The main issues to be raised at the conference should be increasing GDP through improving the transit and development of the country's fleet as a result of transit improvement and increasing national security,” the member of the chamber of commerce said.

“Experts believe that the most important factor in the failure of transit development in the country is lack of a comprehensive transit system,” said Ommati.

The second focus point of the conference should be removing the disruptive transit laws and regulations, Ommati added.

He also mentioned the role of the university and the scientific community in the development of transit. “The lack of involvement of academic institutions and universities is one of the problems of the transit industry today,” Ommati said.

He also noted the lack of strong diplomacy in transit industry as another important concern for the transit industry in the country.
