Price of wheat purchased from farmers increases in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in Iran, Adviser to Iran’s Agriculture Minister Esmaeil Esfandiaripour said, Trend reports referring to the website of Iran’s Agriculture Ministry.

According to Esfandiaripour, taking into account the price increase, it is projected that about 10.5 million tons of wheat will be purchased from farmers this year.

Esfandiaripour added the price of ordinary wheat was set at 17,000 rials (about 40 cents) last year Iranian (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The official said that about 14 million tons of wheat are planned to be harvested in the country this year.

Esfandiaripour said that the main part of the food security in the country is ensured by wheat production adding that therefore, farmers must cooperate with Iranian authorities in this regard.

A number of products, including wheat, are purchased by state-owned companies from farmers who are paid in stages in Iran.
