Volume of tea to be harvested in Iran announced

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

It is forecasted that more than 130,000 tons of tea leaves will be harvested in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), said Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz, Trend reports citing the website of the organization.

According to Jahansaz, weather conditions permitting, the harvest of tea leaves in the northern Iranian provinces of Mazandaran and Gilan will begin after April 20.

Jahansaz added that the price of guaranteed purchase of tea leaves from farmers increased by 27.7 percent in current Iranian year compared to last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The price of first-class tea leaves will be 46,000 rials (about $1.09), and the cost of second-class tea leaves will be 33,000 rials (about 78 cent), he said.

As many as 126,700 tons of tea leaves worth 3.42 trillion rials (about $81.5 million) were purchased from farmers in Iran's Gilan and Mazandaran provinces last year.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by a state-owned company under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
