Kazakhstan launches rifle ammunition manufacturing to decrease import dependence

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

The Phase 1 of Kazakhstan’s rifle ammunition manufacturing plant was launched in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan Engineering company.

The launching ceremony of the Phase 1 was attended by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin on May 5, 2020.

The project is being implemented by Kazakhstan’s Steel Manufacturing company.

The report said that the launched venture is a modern, high-tech enterprise that meets international standards for production of small arms ammunition, and is a part of Kazakhstan Engineering group of companies.

“This project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, will allow us to produce goods in line with standards used in Kazakhstan and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries, and thereby decrease Kazakhstan's dependence on the import of ammunition of this type. The plant will fully cover the need for cartridges in Kazakhstan, and will also open up a new export potential," Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Engineering Kuanysh Bishimov said.

"Our future plans include retrofitting the venture in order to expand producing capacities according to NATO standards, which will expand the export geography. In addition, the project gives us the opportunity to train local qualified personnel and create new jobs,” he added.

Currently, work is underway to develop and approve Kazakhstan’s standards for exporting these goods.
