Iran talks funds paid for saffron to farmers in Razavi Khorasan Province

About 400 billion rials (about $9.5 million) have been paid to farmers in Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran for saffron, said the head of Rural Cooperative Organization of Khorasan Razavi Province Iraj Naseri Moghaddam , Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Naseri Moghaddam, 60 percent of the cost for saffron was paid to the farmers.

Naseri Moghaddam added that in total, 6.3 trillion rials (about $152 million) worth of saffron was purchased from farmers in the province.

"So far, 3.6 trillion rials (about $87.2 million) of these funds have been paid," he said.

The official said that the remaining funds will be paid in stages.

Naseri Moghaddam said that 9,500 farmers sold more than 68 tons of saffron to state-owned companies last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The price of 1 kg of saffron in Iran varies between 82-105 million rials (about $1,900-$2,500).
