Share of small business in Uzbekistan's economy increases

The share of small business in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Uzbekistan has increased from 45.5 percent (following the results of 1Q2019), to 45.8 percent, following the results of 1Q2020, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The highest shares of small business in Gross regional product (GRP) in the period from January through March of 2020 were noted in Jizzakh – 74.8 percent, Samarkand – 68.9 percent and Surkhandarya regions – 67.4 percent.

The lowest share of small business in GRP was recorded in Karakalpakstan - 43.9 percent, Tashkent - 43.9 percent and Navoi regions - 20.9 percent.

In the construction sector, the share of small business increased (compared to the first quarter of 2019), from 71.8 percent to 72.3 percent, in investment development from 38.6 percent to 54.6 percent, in industry from 27.3 percent to 28.7 percent, in exports from 26.6 percent to 27.4 percent, and in the segment of market services provided, on the contrary, declined from 53.6 percent to 51.3 percent.

At the same time, the number of newly established small enterprises and micro-firms fell by 23.4 percent to 23,300, including in the trade segment by 31.5 percent to 9,300, in industry by 32.6 percent to 4,300, and in agriculture by 43.7 percent to 2,600.

Following the results of 1Q2020, Uzbekistan's GDP increased by 4.1 percent in real terms compared to the same period last year and made up 110.5 trillion soum ($10.8 billion) in current prices.
