Production of shoes surges in Azerbaijan

The total value of footwear, clothing, yarn and leather goods produced in Azerbaijan amounted to 165.6 million manat ($97.4 million) from January through April 2020, which is 8.1 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, Trend reports referring to the country's State Statistics Committee.

The production of clothing increased by 1.2 percent, while the production of leather goods, footwear and the production of yarn decreased by 3.6 percent from January through April 2020.

In the reporting period, the retail turnover of yarn products, clothing and footwear reached 1.6 billion manat ($941 million), having decreased by 21.4 percent for the year.

The consumers spent about 14 percent of their earnings on clothes and shoes.

The prices for clothes decreased by 0.1 percent, the prices for footwear increased by 0.3 percent, the prices for fabrics remained unchanged in April compared to March.

The prices for these products increased by 1.1 percent, 1.4 percent and 1.5 percent for the year, respectively.
