Iran discloses volume of cargo transported by land

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26

The volume of cargo transported by land in Iran was 70 million tons during 2 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-May 20, 2020), Chairman of the Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization Abdolhashem Hassania told IRIB, Trend reports.

According to Hassania, cargo was transported 4.6 million times, while taking into account the return of empty trucks, the volume would be 9.2 million.

Hassania added that 4 million tons of transported cargo were essential products and transported from ports to other regions of Iran.

The chairman said that over the past two months, more than 160,000 trucks have transported essential products that were imported to Iranian ports (mainly the port of Imam Khomeini).

Hassania said that at present, more than 90 percent of the cargo and passengers in Iran are transported by land.

The chairman said that 450 million tons of cargo is transported in Iran annually by 340,000 trucks.
