Uzbekistan takes additional steps to join World Trade Organization

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on Approval of the Regulations on the Interdepartmental Commission for Work with the World Trade Organization (WTO), Trend reports with reference to National Database of Legislation of Uzbekistan.

"The Interagency Commission on work with the WTO is a collegial body, which was created to facilitate Uzbekistan's accession to WTO and identify areas of work. The regulations define the tasks and functions of the Interagency Commission, its composition, organization of activities and procedure for its work", the message said.

The main tasks of the Interagency Commission are preparation, coordination and approval of the documents for cooperation with the WTO member states; submission the working groups' proposals on bringing the national legislation in line with the WTO rules and principles; and elaboration of the common position of Uzbekistan on strategic issues of its accession to the WTO, on bilateral, multilateral trade agreements and treaties.

Under the resolution, the Interagency Commission will hold meetings at least twice a year. The materials for consideration at the meetings are prepared by the Secretariat of the Commission - the Department for Cooperation with WTO of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade. Decisions are taken by open voting of the commission members.

The Interdepartmental Commission reports on the results of its meetings to the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
