Iran has sufficient foreign currency reserves - CBI

TEHRAN, Iran, June 2

Trend:

Iran's foreign currency reserves are sufficient and there is no shortage, said the Governor of Central Bank of Iran Abdolnasser Hemmati, Trend reports via IRNA.

"Bringing back foreign currency revenues to Iran in February was problematic due to issues with our neighboring countries and the foreign currency market, but eventually, the problems were solved, Hemmati said.

"Our issue is that we do not have permission to access to our foreign currency sources (abroad) and we are negotiating for it. We've succeeded in doing so during the last Iranian year (March 21,2019), as used some of our foreign currency sources abroad," he added.

"Iran has imported medicine and basic goods valued at $4.5 billion in the last Iranian year (began March 21,2019)," Hemmati added.

He said that Iran had no issues with foreign currency, and has undergone certain measures to keep up the foreign currency rate in the country," he said.

"In the past 2,5 months around $4 billion have been prepared to be used for importing basic goods, medicine and basic materials for factories," he added.

Hemmati said that foreign currency rate is 'the key', and all trade-related policies should be adapted to the foreign currency policy.
