Retail trade volume down in major Kazakhstan's cities

The value of the retail trade in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.5 trillion tenge (approximately $8.7 billion) over the period from Jan. till May 2020, which is 16.2 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Committee of Statistics of Kazakhstan.

According to the data, the largest percentage in the total retail trade turnover accounts for individual entrepreneurs (38 percent compared to 39.4 percent last month) during the reporting month.

It is followed by small businesses (29.3 compared to 28.5 percent) and large businesses (22.4 compared to 22.1 percent). The least amount of retail trade turnover accounts for medium businesses (10.3 compared to 10 percent).

The largest share of the retail trade accounts for Almaty city. Some 29.6 percent of the total trade turnover accounts for this city and the value of trade turnover here has dropped by 22.3 percent during the reporting period compared to the same of 2019.

The major part of the retail trade turnover accounts for Nur-Sultan city (10.6 percent; volume decreased by 24.4 percent), Karaganda region (9.9 percent; volume decreased by 10.9 percent) and East Kazakhstan region (9.4 percent; decrease by 13.2 percent).
